Day and Night/ Night and Day
The Groll Imperium is among the greatest of nations devoted to evil across the world of Paradigm. It is a nation that thrives on war and conquest, and has subverted or conquered over a dozen other states in its bid for dominance on Paradigm. Ruling from his capitol city of Tahn’isk’groll, the Imperator Melzzar al-Vrosk plots to see the world fall to the swords of Groll’s dark armies. A fierce warrior and devoted servant of the God of Tyranny, Melzzar is feared across the world for his skill in planning battles, and his skills in fighting them.
The Groll rely on armies of trained soldiers, with the overwhelming majority volunteers rather than conscripts. This is largely due to the fact that military service is well rewarded in the Imperium, with good pay and other benefits arising from serving the Imperator. Groll soldiers, mostly human, though orcs, half-orcs and hobgoblins are also well represented, are well trained and equipped, and lead by experienced veterans who have fought, and survived, many battles. Overwhelming numbers, brute strength and surprise are the key to most Groll strategies, and those are augmented with mercenaries, charmed or recruited monsters, and potent magic as well. A large number of mercenary groups serve the Groll at any given time, thanks to generous pay as well as constant action on the different borders of the Imperium. Such companies are not given too much lee-way in the interior of the country, however, and are mostly found near the border regions. Creatures like Ogres, Trolls, as well as various tribes of monstrous humanoids are sometimes recruited, bribed or coerced to fight the enemies of the Groll. In battle they serve as either shock troops or as fodder to wear down the enemy. Magic users are paid extraordinarily well to server in the Groll army, and many do. Payment is not merely in gold, but magical items as well, be it potions, scrolls or other items. At least two schools of magic devoted to magical warfare exist in the Imperium, joining them is a privilege reserved for those who either have demonstrated loyalty or skill on the battlefield, or come from a powerful family in the Imperium.
